You’ll learn about the Gullah people of the Sea Islands, their religious and community traditions, and the success of a freedman working to build a future for his family during Reconstruction. Along the way, you will hear about the Bluffton Movement where the the seeds of secession were planted many years before the Civil War began with the shelling of Ft. Sumter. And you’ll discover that Bluffton was the winter home for one of America’s richest families as well as the center of the country’s short-lived oyster packing industry.
